Great Shifter / Brake Lever combo. No major issues
By Chris Miller
I've used these shifters on 2 of my bikes for about 4 years, and my wife has them on her bike. They work great. The product that shipped was the newer model, and doesn't match the product image on Amazon (as of 6/26/11). Both the older and newer models function exactly the same, as far as I can tell. The newer one just looks nicer.
The 'grip shift' shifters on a friends bike fell apart, and needed to be replaced. I recommended these to him, and purchased them on Amazon for him.
I installed them when they arrived, and I had an issue with the right-hand shifter. When using the lower shift lever (to down-shift the rear), the lever wouldn't return on it's own until I'd up-shift (use the upper lever). I figured there must have been something gumming up the inside, or the return spring didn't have enough tension.
I was just about to return the item, but I figured I'd at least try to resolve the problem. I didn't spot anything wrong, and didn't really want to douse it with degreaser right out of the box, but I did put a little bit of oil in there to try to loosen it up. After going up and down all the gears for several minutes, the lower lever finally started to return on it's own exactly as it's supposed to. I'm not entirely sure if it was the oil that did it, or the problem just resolved itself with repetitive use. Either way, it's working great on his bike now.
I'll try to remember to get a photo of the newer-style shifters, and post them up here soon, so that you all can see exactly what it is you're buying.
I added an image that compares the looks of the Old and New styles side-by-side. Click the "See Customer Image" on the product page.

INCLUDES NEEDED CABLES
This is a great set of trigger shifters for upgrading the old twist type shifters on your 21 speed (3 x 7) bike. Highly recommend this. HOWEVER - at the point when I'm posting this feedback, the Amazon posting does not make it clear that this set of shifters includes a new set of cables, all in the box with the shifters. I was misled in to purchasing an extra set of cables because of the 'frequently bought with...' recommendations on Amazon. Save the extra $8 and skip the extra set of cables.

Great set up, V brake ONLY
By Mark A. Roman
This is the "2 finger" short brake handle set, which cannot be adjusted for cantilever brakes. Tried to order the EF51 set with (4 finger grip) Cantilever brake compatibility. This is NOT this set. There exist EF51 4 finger sets out there, but one cannot easily tell how to order them from Amazon.
If you need guaranteed Cantilever brake compatibility, then order the EF65. Costs a little more, but will definitely work.
